Manazar War Relocation Center

In 1942, the United States government ordered more than 110,000 men, women, and children to leave their homes and detained them in remote, military-style camps. Manzanar War Relocation Center was one of ten camps where Japanese American citizens and resident Japanese aliens were interned during World War II. Manzanar is 10 miles north of Mt. Whitney. I visited today with my teammate, Roseann. We toured the grounds. Photos from the camp – barracks, baseball field, flag at half mass for Boston, miles of barbed wire, Japanese folded cranes near the cemetery, and me jumping near the Manzanar sign.

Other photos – on the way to Mt. Whitney trail, teammate Paul and I – spelling the number 2 – for Team 2. Rocks are known as Alabama Hills.
