Anger and rage

I am physically ok. I am not ok, and my faith in humanity faltered today. I was hit by a car while on my bike.

Again, I am ok.

I was in the bike lane going straight, only a few blocks from work. The car to my left cut me off to turn right without signaling. I couldn’t maneuver or stop because the car was too close, I hit the back of the car.

I laid on the street for a few minutes assessing the damage before I got up and brushed myself off. The driver didn’t get out of the car or talk to me. They just drove away. Another driver stopped and asked if I was ok. I couldn’t write the driver’s license number or take their contact information. I would have been ok if the driver came to check on me or apologized. Mistakes happen, they didn’t look as they were turning, nor did they signal. It is considered a hit and run.

I fell on my left side, bruises and scrapes but I am fine and my bike is ok. I need a new helmet because of the potential dent but overall I am filled with rage and saddened at the humanity of the driver. What kind of person hits a person with their car and drives away?

For all drivers in cities, please look before you turn into a bike lane and signal please.

  1. I am so sorry that that happened. So glad that you are ok. Take care of yourself and heal. I am sure everyone is so grateful that you fared as you did.
